Does psychodynamic therapy work? and other commonly asked questions.
It is common to have lots of questions before starting therapy. Get in touch by email or through the contact page if you don’t find the answer to your question here.

Where do you work?
My therapy room is on West Regent Street, Glasgow. This is easily accessible by bus, train or subway.
I currently have space for in-person clients on a Wednesday.
Unfortunately, this venue does not have step-free access.
Do you offer online sessions?
Yes, if you are interested in online work feel free to message me through the contact page and let me know you want to work online.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Yes, empirical studies (including randomised trials and meta-analyses) demonstrate the efficacy of psychodynamic therapies.
Significantly, repeated studies found that the efficacy of psychodynamic therapy not only lasts, but increases over time. By contrast, the benefits of non-psychodynamic therapies tended to decrease over time for common problems, such as anxiety and depression. You can view the evidence here.
Will our sessions be confidential?
Everything you share in sessions is confidential, unless you disclose a risk to your safety or the safety of others. I might discuss aspects of our work with my clinical supervisor, keeping your identity anonymous.
I am registered with the ICO and COSCA and follow their codes of practice.
Who do you work with?
I work with adult clients in Scotland. It is important you can work with a therapist who you feel comfortable with and has the skills you need. Part of our first session will be about getting to know one another and seeing if we will be able to work well together. Very occasionally I might need to refer you to a different counsellor, for example if there is a conflict of interest or if I do not have the expertise to meet your specific needs as a client.
I offer a neuro and LGBTQIA+ affirming practice.
How do I make an appointment?
Use the contact form below or send me an email.
I offer a free initial phone consultation to explore your hopes for counselling. This also helps you decide if we will be a good fit. During the call we can discuss availability for an appointment.
How much do you charge?
I charge £55 per session, with a limited number of concession slots for student counsellors.
I offer a free 20 minute phone consultation, with no obligations for us to work together.
What happens in the first session?
During our first session, I will explain the contract for our work together and outline my duties to you as a client.
I will ask a bit about you and important people and events in your life. This will also be an opportunity for you to ask any questions you might have.
If you have further questions feel free to ask in the contact form or by email: emmaberrytherapy@proton.me
